Yahoo lists Penang among world’s top 10

Penang Char Kway Teow, the most famous dish in Penang. Absolutely tasty..

GEORGE TOWN: An online travel guide has picked Penang as one of the top 10 islands in the world “you must see before you die.”

Yahoo! Travel writer Gary McKechnie ranks Penang eighth on the list of the “must visit” places.

Other islands listed are Bali, Vieques in Puerto Rico, Easter Island in Chile, Ischia in the bay of Naples (Italy), Chiloe in Chile, Bora Bora in French Polynesia, Key West in the Conch Republic, Galapagos in Ecuador and Palm Islands in Dubai.

These destinations offered something that could not be found anywhere else, said McKechnie in his article ‘10 Islands to Explore Before You Die’ (http://travel.yahoo.com/p-interests-37926474).

He praised Penang as Malaysia’s food capital and suggested that visitors did their “food crawl” along George Town’s street stalls.

He recommended that foodies head to the area adjacent to the Kek Lok Si Temple in Ayer Itam to feast on delicious food of rice, noodles, fish, shellfish, chicken, pork and vegetables.

He also suggested visitors try out lor bak, lok-lok and ikan bakar.

On the local architecture, he described Penang as having a range of modern high-rise buildings to 19th-century British architecture.

He also pointed out a mix of beach resorts, preserved mangroves, fishing villages, temples, mosques and churches.

“Kek Lok Si was the best example as the largest Buddhist temple in South-East Asia,” he said.

So, for those who haven't visit Penang, you can do so. The foodies absolutely delicious and scenery also interesting.
That's for now.
Have a pleasant Monday.

Another food post in a blog I found today. Char kueh tiaow is one of my favourite food when I am visiting Penang. Should try go to Kepala Batas, forget the name of the shop.
Not every Penang char kueh teow seller is a good in cooking this dish. Need the combination of fresh food and kueh teow sambal.

  12. Hi Stella. Is's been a while since my last visit to your blog. Anyway, I would like to comment in response to your entry on Penang Island. I was given an opportunity to visit Penang Island and Kepala Batas, Penang last year somewhere in in the beginning of the year (2010). I was one of the participant for the Orientation Course for Federal Officers from Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan, from 2 until 7 March, 2010 2010, which was organized by the Department of Unity and National Integration. This course was organized to expose participants about the purpose of unity and integration among Malaysian.

I stayed with my foster family for approximately 4 days. They are Aunt Pearly and Uncle Chandra. Chindian family! Interesting, right?

Short and sweet, they brought us to so many beautiful and interesting places in Penang Island. I hardly recall some of the visited places. But, I do have some nice photos to share. I shall write about Penang as well, and give my foster family credit.

At the mean time, you might want to surf Aunt Pearly's website. Take a look at this http://www.my-island-penang.com. This blog has been named as one of the most referred blog and top website in the world in regards to Penang Island. Happy surfing!

    Regards.
